Nikon Releases 2 New Lenses and 2 New Cameras
July 30, 2009I get this question quite often and it usually takes me a while to answer because of all the components needed to do off-camera flash lighting; so the better way is to just make a blog post.
David Hobby (Strobist) has an excellent in-depth series of posts that explains everything you need, why you need it, and things to consider on his excellent blog (the post starts here) and I’m not going to that much detail. Think of this as rather a friend asking another friend: what do I need and where do I buy it sprinkled with a few thoughts here and there.
Scott Kelby’s 2nd Annual World Wide Photo Walk
July 19, 2009
Nothing escapes my field of view! Photo courtesy of David Head. Thanks!
I attended this year’s Annual World Wide Photo Walk organized by Scott Kelby and the many Photo Walk Leaders in over 900 cities around the world with some 30,000 participants. For those who aren’t sure what a photo walk is, it is generally where a person travels around (on foot) a specific location(s) photographing anything and everything that inspires them. There is usually no set purpose of what to photograph, but rather to let inspiration and creativity inspire. I attended the San Francisco Photo Walk led by Lenny Lind. Pics inside.
Inspiration comes in many forms. Sometimes you see something as simple as an alley in Chinatown with broken concrete, gravel, parking cones, and those traffic control barriers, random strangers watching you, and you have one of the beautiful models sit down in that mess and what do you get? Something really neat:

Inspiration also comes from photographing with other amazing photographers in the local Bay Area.
The Brenizer Method Explained With Directions
July 10, 2009Wedding photographer extraordinaire Ryan Brenizer invented this really cool technique while on his honeymoon which is dubbed “The Brenizer Method”. For those who may or may not have heard of it and are not sure of what this technique is exactly, it’s essentially using a telephoto lens to create a very shallow depth of field as if shot with a wider angle lens. This technique makes a dSLR image look like it was shot by medium format.
Brand recognition is perhaps one of the most important aspects to business success. Sure, it’s important to have a product or service that people want, but if you can’t get people to understand your brand, your competitor has no problems explaining to them their brand.
Photography is just like any other service based business. The brand recognition is the style of images each photographer or photography studio has. Take for example, photographer Dave Hill and his unmistakable style of photography. When you see one of his images, you know it’s him. It’s the same thing as other photographers such as Ansel Adams, Chase Jarvis, and so forth. But just having a style of photography isn’t always enough for your potential clients to remember you, you need something more. This is where the amazing husband-and-wife team of COVERITALLCO comes in.
San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade Pics Posted
July 1, 2009We had incredible fun at this year’s San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade. Tons of people came out this year to celebrate “In Order To Form A More Perfect Union…”. There were lots of good food, excellent costumes, excellent floats, and great people to see. The weather was nice and sunny in the 80’s with nice blue skies. You can see all the pictures in our gallery from this year’s Pride Parade here.
