Eric and I got together to do some portfolio shots for ModelMayhem member Anna Luong, a beautiful model and very easy to work with. We shot at San Jose State University. All images shot with a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II and Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM with off-camera lighting using a Canon 580EX II. My favorite shots, with Eric’s shots coming soon, click in to see.
My first experimentation of the “Brenizer Method“:
The Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM is an AMAZING lens when used wide-open. At an aperture of f/1.2 there is a very narrow depth of field and you have to make sure you nail your focus or your shots will look like missed focus. Being a wide-open junkie and using a crazy lens such as the 85mm, I shot almost all these shots at f/1.2. Lighting was handled with a single Canon 580EX II Speedlite shot through a Westcott 43″ shoot through umbrella trigged using Canon’s Wireless Flash System in order to achieve high-speed sync to photograph at wide open apertures.
